Objectives:
Understand the use of dots in painting from different styles and periods: study Aboriginal art, Pointillism and modern artist Vance Kirkland Create artworks based on personal experience by incorporating the use of dots. Practice on group critique to help students make informed judgment about personal artworks and the works of others. |
Australian Aboriginal Art:
1. Aboriginal art is created to tell stories about life, birth, love, food, hunting....
2. Use symbolic and geometric patterns
3. Colors are usually in warm earthy tone

Pointillism:
1. Pointillism is a painting technique of small, individual dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an image
2. Influenced by French Impressionism, the subject is usually about natural landscape
3. Colors are mostly in natural tone of primary and secondary colors
Vance Kirkland:
1. Influenced by American Abstract expressionism, focused on abstract subject to express emotional feelings
2. Variations of dots are used to compose the whole image
3. Colors are vivid and intense, creating dramatic effect and energy for the painting

2. use markers or Q-tips with acrylic paint to outline the pattern by using dots
Pointillism:
1. draw a naturalist form with pencil
2. use markers or Q-tips with acrylic paint to fill in the form with dots
3. shade could be created by different colors or space between each dots
